  1. It is both not surprising and sad that there are no comments here. The "head in the sand" approach to government, the complacency of the citizens combine, to make Lafayette a dangerous place to live.
No, the danger doesn't arise from baggy-pantsed, disaffected, bored and oppressed young people who you see wandering around with nothing to do. Nor does the danger come from the terrible drivers, the bad Mexican food or the taser-happy, poorly trained, disaffected and bored police officers. The danger I refer to here is the danger when complacency and mediocrity meet in the land of the status quo.

But there is no status quo anymore. You read it here first people, uncertainty is the new normal. What are the elected leaders doing in Lafayette to deal with the continually unraveling economy? The decay and decrepitude of city streets, buildings and services?

Or really, what is The Leader doing, since as we all know, the elected leaders are really just Klaplackeys. (OK, I have been working on that for awhile, trying to combine City Administrator Klaphake's name with the word lackeys...yes, that's right, Lafayette City Council is just a bunch of Klaplackeys...OK, I'll keep working on it.)

So, a breakdown on these fine people we have running this poor little town into the ground.

Chris Cameron - seems like a nice enough lady but way out of her depth. She doesn't have the cojones to stand up to fellow Council people, much less stand up to the Klaphake Glare.
Carolyn Cutler - one keeps wondering why she isn't living and serving in Boulder. Seems much more a Boulder, "Analysis Paralysis" kind of person, and listening to her spin and spin and spin and never make a conclusive statement on ANYTHING makes my head hurt.
Alex Schatz - short man syndrome. He is a major menace.
David Strungis - I've got shoes older than this kid but try not to hold it against him. What does he stand for? He seems to trend towards whichever what the wind is blowing, no real substance or principle. I think he may be following the polls.
Jay Ruggeri - can you grandstanding? On an on an on, all in the name of one or two issues. He is supposed to be representing everyone, not just firefighters (he is a Boulder fireman) and the physically challenged (he has a family member who is disabled).
Frank Phillips - a fundamentally cranky man, on top of some unrelenting grandstanding and self promoting. Interesting, he has been Lafayette's point man for "green" issues for years, all while he tries to get himself a job in the green industries. Well, these guys don't get paid squat, so what do you expect?
Kerry Bensman - can you say nattering nabob of negativity? Just like a broken clock he is right every now and again, and what do you know, the horrible economic consequences he has been predicting have finally come true.

What is the answer? Oh, if only those Lakewood people had been smart enough to hire that Genius Klaphake away! But no, we are stuck with him, thanks to an iron-clad contract and the fact that his wife likes it here. Meanwhile, stores and restaurants close (goodbye Albertsons!), housing values drop, programs get cut, and nothing changes. You still have incredible waste at City Hall, the Library and the Rec Center. You still have overpaid poorly managed cops and under paid poorly managed firefighters.

(Here's an aside: Voters passed bond measures to raise money to a)pave the streets and install two traffic lights and b) pay the firefighters. One traffic light is up, but where are those paved streets and how about a decent raise for the firefighters? Is the city just collecting that bond money and using it for general expenses as their sales tax revenues dry up?)
